Radin began his artistic pursuits at an early age with art, acting and music, growing up in Cleveland, Ohio. Radin graduated from Northwestern University, majoring in communications and drawing and painting. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity there. Radin’s first recording was a demo of the song «Winter» produced by songwriter Cary Brothers. When a close friend, actor/filmmaker Zach Braff, heard the demo of «Winter», he was immediately interested and featured the song on his show Scrubs in the episode «My Screw Up» in early 2004. The song received an overwhelmingly positive response and gave Radin substantial exposure with the show’s demographic. The songs «Today», «Closer», «Don’t Look Away», «These Photographs», «I’d Rather Be With You», and a cover of the «Sesame Street Theme Tune» were also used on the show, the latter two of which featured on back-to-back Scrubs episodes «My ABC’s» and «My Cookie Pants» on January 27, 2009.
Since then, Radin’s songs have been featured on Scrubs, Brothers and Sisters, Grey’s Anatomy, American Idol, One Tree Hill, Lead Balloon, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip , Lie to Me (TV series) and Leverage (TV Series). His song «Brand New Day» was featured at the end of the February 2, 2009, episode of House. Also, his song «No Envy No Fear» was featured on the Fox TV show Bones. His song «Star Mile» was on The Last Kiss movie soundtrack, along with «Paperweight», which he sings in a duet with Schuyler Fisk. He also recorded «What If You», which was featured on the soundtrack of the movie Catch and Release. «The Fear You Won’t Fall» has been featured on the 12th episode of 90210.
Joshua has also appeared on many national TV programs including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, CBS Early Show, and Carson Daly, as well as a cameo in Zach Braff’s film Garden State. He has toured with Dar Williams, Tori Amos, Sheryl Crow, Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles, KT Tunstall, Cary Brothers, Imogen Heap, Butch Walker, Patty Griffin, Meiko, and Missy Higgins.
Having captured the public’s attention, Radin set about keeping it, as he released his debut album We Were Here in June 2006, through Columbia Records. The album was previously available exclusively on iTunes, where it became the #1 bestselling folk album.
Radin’s second full length album Simple Times was released through iTunes on September 9, 2008, and was released in stores on September 30. The first single from Simple Times is «I’d Rather Be With You», which has been uploaded to his MySpace page. Following the release of «Simple Times», Radin announced a tour encompassing both the USA and UK.
In January 2008, Joshua performed the song «Today» on The Ellen DeGeneres Show after the talk show host met him at a charity event the previous weekend. Along with her wife Portia, Ellen would later ask Joshua Radin to perform «Today» at the couple’s wedding. The couple had reportedly turned down song offers from George Michael and Justin Timberlake, and went for Radin instead.
